Reinforcements have arrived!

My 61-65 Project is slowly coming together, my ACW miniatures and building arrived yesterday from The Baggage Train and Pendraken Miniatures. I can’t praise highly enough of both company’s products.
I even received a free wagon from The Baggage Train, which I am going to use as an objective for the time being. “Defend the pay chest boy’s scenario springs to mind!”

I will hopefully get some photos taken and up during this weekend. I will also then give a review of the items themselves. At first glance they both look really good, I will have to come up with a better basing idea, I didn’t realise how small the infantry were! J

New War band for SoBH - Green Dragon Clan

With the new version of Song of Blades and Heroes available and a bargain find on e-bay I thought I would create a new war band based on feudal Japan. These guys who only cost £1.00 will form my Green Dragon Clan.

They are 10mm Pendraken figures and the detail is very good. I really like the seated Warlord; I am looking forward to basing and painting these guys. I also have somewhere a small dragon which may or may not form part of this war band. It depends if I can squeeze it in to 500 points.

I am going to base the infantry figures on M6 washers backed with magnetic sheet and the mounted figure on a once pence piece.
The colour scheme will be green, obviously.

The war band lists:

ACW '61-'65 rules arrived

After reading a post on TMP, that showed some beautiful 10mm ACW miniatures made by Blazeaway Miniatures, i decided to take the plunge and splash out on a printed version of Ganesha Games '61-'65 ACW rules.

‘61-‘65 ACW Rules (PDF)

They arrived yesterday and i have read through them once and i am very impressed, the type face and layout id very clear. The art work used is also of a very high standard and helps tie the whole product together.
I am going to to some ACW gaming in 10mm using Blazeaway or Langton Miniatures Starfort Models.

As far as i can tell from my initial read of the rules I will not need much more than 100 models which based on Langton prices means i can have two forces for about £25.00!!!! Now to me that isn't too much of an investment in the lead and I will be able to sneak these under the wifedar.

The wifedar is my wife ability to find my miniatures that i like to buy and add to the lead pile and then complain at how much i have got and the cost. I never complain about her shoes or expensive handbags ;-)

Keep tuned as i post more information about this project and these rules.

All the best,

Ian

SDS (short) AAR - Skirmish at the river

This skirmish takes place at a river somewhere in Portugal. Both the French and the British need to control the bridge to allow vital supplies to flow to the front lines and a quick exit route if needed.
Each side has dispatched a small scouting force to take and hold the bridge until reinforcements arrive. Little do each side know but they both have the same idea on the same day.
The British arrive from the South West, lead by the renowned Major Blunt. The French arrive from the West with no knowledge of Major Blunts Rifles.......

Major Blunt and his men.....

The French move forward....

Two French troopers open up on the exposed British on the road....
The bugler is KIA, and another rifle man is knocked to the ground.
First blood to the Emperor!

What is this? The French have reinforcements!

However the French officer doesn't have much luck with the dice, this is the second lot of turn overs rolled!

But wait, what is this? It's only Sergent McMurphy, he has flanked the French and their officer has kindly walked into his sights and has now entered the after life!

McMurphy has rattled the French and they leg-it for somewhere safer.... One of the Frogs does has a last ditch go at the British but he is wide of the mark.

This was a really fun game and only took 20mins to play! One of the reasons why I so love the Songs System.
I used the solo rules that are here on my blog and they work really well, I guess it was because each side had an objective that made it easier to play this game as a solo game.
The miniatures as AB, and are wonderful, if not a little big for 15mm, they are nearer 18mm if not 20mm. However my painting does not do them justice. Something that I am going to work on as I really enjoy Naps gaming.
I am really looking forward to my next game of SDS, I wonder what Major Blunt and Sergent McMurphy will be up to next time..... Who knows but one thing is for sure the French better watch out!
